For everyone else, there’s the World Famous Barstool Ski Races in Martin City on Feb. 12-13. It’s part of the 33rd annual Cabin Fever Days taking place in the “Gateway to Glacier,” which consists of Martin City, Coram and Hungry Horse.
There are different categories, so it seems as though anything attached to skis qualifies. I’ve included some pictures of past entries. People get creative!
In addition to barstool sledding, there’s a poker run, sumo wrestling, snowshoe softball, hog roasts, turtle races, beard contest, mountain-man contest, poker, shuffleboard, pool and darts tournaments, a kids’ carnival and live music at several venues all weekend.
For an events schedule, visit the Cabin Fever Days website. All activities requires a Cabin Fever Days button for admission. They cost $3 a piece.
Proceeds from the event go to local charities, including Canyon Kids Christmas Fund, Canyon QRU, Martin City Fire Department and Canyon Head Start.
In addition to the scheduled activities, a number of canyon-area businesses are offering Cabin Fever Days promotions. Glacier Outdoor Center is offering free Nordic skiing February 12th and 13th to everyone with a button, Tamarack Lodge is offering10% off to button wearers and raffling a $250 lodging package, and Hungry Horse Liquor is sponsoring a shuttle bus service for sober travel between activities.
