Parts of Yellowstone Park received as much as 22-inches of snow over the weekend, allowing for a spectacular start to the park’s winter season.

Today, all  interior park roads opened to snowmobiles and snow coaches.

On Tuesday, park officials opened only the South and West entrances to the park. Travel was limited to Old Faithful.

The road from Mammoth to Norris remains limited to rubber-tracked snow coaches. Sylvan Pass doesn’t open until Dec. 22.

Daniel Person of the Bozeman Daily Chronicle talked with folks in West Yellowstone about the interim winter travel plan for the park, recently enacted by the Obama administration. The plan allows 318 guided snowmobilers in the park per day –  the fewest ever.
